Cranwell is noted for many things; it is proudly billed as the "Area's Finest Four-Season Resort." One of those seasons, winter, features an outstanding XC experience. Spread out on 380 acres, there are over 15 km of groomed trails. Stephanie Taylor reports that Cranwell has a unique advantage over many other areas, in that some 3 km of their trails are augmented by snowmaking machinery; thus, when the temperature drops below the correct threshold, there is snow.

Another unique feature about Cranwell is that XC skiers will be poling along on top of an 18-hole Championship-Level Golf Course! Those who chase the little white ball during the warmer months will be delighted to enjoy those same trails in a much different, yet very rewarding way. A large "Snowcat" meticulously grooms the trails for optimum conditions. The trails are designed and maintained for both single track and skaters and will serve skiers of all levels of experience. Snowshoers are always welcome.

January 10th, 1999 will feature Cranwell's edition of "Ski Fest." This event is coordinated by the XC Ski Association and offers free introductory lessons, discounts on equipment and other amenities such as food, clinics and demos. As an authorized Rossignol dealer, Cranwell has one of the most up to date ski shops, with equipment for rental or sale as well as expert ski instruction available.

Taylor also suggests guests unwind at the aprés ski near the fireplace in Cranwell's historic mansion. Those staying overnight will be astonished at the accommodations of this 100 year-old Tudor mansion with 95 sumptuous rooms to treat the weary skier. Meetings, weddings and retreats can also be arranged, in between exploring the rolling countryside.
