Those seeking the very finest XC the Berkshires have to offer will be well pleased on visiting Bucksteep, in business over 21 years. Located between Washington and October Mountains, Bucksteep's 25 km of lovingly groomed trails are cut between 400 acres of flora and fauna uniquely Berkshire in origin. In the midst of this verdant splendor sits an inviting turn of the century inn constructed in the English Tudor style. Great roaring fires, a lounge with games and a fine restaurant make the Manor House a great place to visit with the whole family, or to stay overnight to maximize your XC experience. Dominic Sacco, the genial Lord of the Bucksteep Manor points out that Bucksteep is also an ideal spot for meetings, reunions and weddings. He also urges visitors to stop by the restored century-old carriage barn with food and drink for skiers, as well as ample space for groups, music and dancing.

The attention to grooming has paid off in trails offering outstanding diagonal stride skiing, while the packed-smooth lanes offer an excellent skating surface. There are a variety of trails from beginner to intermediate to expert, with both rentals and instruction available. Mr. Sacco, the former XC coach of Lenox High School, says that his instructors are PSIA certified (Professional Ski Instructors of America) and will be offering tips and help during Ski Fest, scheduled for January 1999; he suggests contacting Bucksteep for more information on this fun and informative ski event. Surprisingly near to downtown Pittsfield, and, thus, easily accessible to anyone traveling through Berkshire County, Bucksteep earned these kudos from a recent visitor: "From the food to the skiing, to the service, everything was warm, friendly and wonderful."
