The Irish Alps are justly famous for having the longest vertical drop in New England, as well as convenient skiing a few steps away from their overnight accommodations and, perhaps inevitably, a rollicking good time on St. Patrick's Day. They are perhaps less well known, undeservedly so, for their fine XC skiing. Matt Kelly, one of the heirs to the titular scion, describes their XC experience in glowing terms; "People who want a different experience than downhill can come with friends and family, and each can have a great time of it."

The terrain at Brodie is quite varied and unusual; there are many springs, rock formations and caves throughout the open fields and wooded areas. The 25 km of groomed trails were designed and "cut" by the legendary Williams College and Olympic XC Coach Bud Fisher, who tried to design these trails with skiers of all levels and backgrounds in mind. The trails will accommodate either single track or skating and there is a XC lodge, which provides instruction and rentals. Veterans will also appreciate the fact there is a flush toilet located near the warming hut. Since 1969, Brodie's XC experience has delighted devotees of the sport.
