Santarella Estate, the historic home and studio of the sculptor, Sir Henry Hudson Kitson, is a truly magical and unique site. Kitson's studio, affectionately known as the "Gingerbread House", gets it's name from the "storybook-style" architecture and incredible "rolling" roof. The design and construction of the amazing building was the last major project of his life and continued for over 20 years.

Kitson's former residence, the late 18th century colonial house, dates back to when the Tyringham Valley was first being settled. The lovely grounds of the estate include four acres of developed gardens, running brooks, lily pond and natural woods with walking trail.

Santarella is owned by the Hoefer-Brandmeyer family who have have taken on the preservation of the incredible history and architecture of the property. The restoration and renovation of the buildings is ongoing and completion of the restoration of the "silo studio", originally one of Kitson's workspaces, is expected in Spring 2007.

The estate is now available as a special event venue, catering to weddings, family events, meetings or retreats, conferences and other private functions. The colonial home and "silo studio" are available for overnight accommodations in conjunction with events scheduled at Santarella or separately. Tours of the estate may be scheduled by appointment with a small donation required.
