GEGGY TAH

Sacred Cow (Luaka Bop/Warner Bros.)

A wildly uneven collection from this Southern California trio. At its best, as on the funky "Whoever You Are" and "Don't Close the Door" or the jazzy "Century Plant 2000" and "Such a Beautiful Night" -- the last which makes brilliant use of Gershwin's "Rhapsody In Blue" -- it recalls the Talking Heads in all their surreal, absurdist splendor. At its worst, it's simply unlistenable. Which is what CD program selection was made for.
