Subject:Unfair account of Pennington meetingWhen I read the article by Seth Rogovoy , I was upset, dismayed and frustrated.
We at the National Music Foundation have worked very hard and long to reach our goals for American music, and we feel that much success has been accomplished this year. The state funding has been awarded, matching funds were offered, the Berkshire Music Festival was a huge success, the summer program is outstanding, and the retirement home for musicians is becoming more and more of a reality. Cosmetic clean-up of several of the old buildings is in progress.
As chairman of the Berkshire Advisory Board of the Foundation, I feel Mr. Rogovoy's account of Ms. Pennington's meeting with the Lenox Selectmen was unfair and poor journalism. She was quoted out of context; I know Ms. Pennington is for all American music, and the "outrageous or wild" was to ensure the Lenox community that they would not be disturbed at future events; to drag up supposed past histories of Mr. Clark, was pure (or impure) yellow journalism.
