Mr. Rogovoy-

My name is Brett Pipitone, and I am a 17 year old musicion (sic). I have played in the Akron Youth Symphony for three years, and during those years I have performed such peices as Beathovens(sic) 5th, and other expert leval clasical music. I have been a percussionist for 8 years, performings such solos as Ross Edwards Marimba Dances, and the Myazumi Concertino for Xylophone. The reason that I am writing to you is that I came across your artical(sic) about Victor Borge's Lenox performance on July 28th, 1996, and I found the last paragraph of the artical(sic) personally offending. The so called "MTV generation" is no different than any other generation that this world has ever seen. There are a few members of my generation that would disregard athority(sic) and order, but I find that this is a very small part of the population. I know and work with a large number of people my age that are far more dedicated and fucussed(sic) than must adults that I know every week at Symphony practice, and with other every day during my internship hours at NASA Lewis Research Center. Further more I dont't see how your assesment of your "TV-induced, short attention spans" can be justified. Have you ever observed a young musicion practicing for 6 hours at a time, only to stop for lunch and continue for the rest of the day, or, to put it into terms that you may be more familier with, seen a teenager practice one trick on a skateboard for all hours of the day. To make my point,in most of the teenagers of this era, what you see as a lack of attention span is actually a strong love for somthing you eather(sic) don't understand, don't approve of, or don't realize. Further more, I fail to see the relavince(sic) of your feelings toward my generation to a Victor Borge concert.

Sincerily, (sic) Brett Pipitone

Brett:

Thanks for your comments on my Victor Borge review. You clearly read the review with as much care and attention as you used to express yourself in your message to me, which was riddled with atrocious spelling and grammatical errors.

As for the relevance of my comment regarding the MTV generation to a review of Victor Borge, if you reread the sentence you will plainly see the relevance. This was more of a dig at Borge than the MTV generation which, by the way, I never say includes ALL or even MOST of today's youth. You incorrectly inferred that from my article. I think this says more about you than me. Or, as Shakespeare put it, "[Methinks you] doth protest too much." (Hamlet, III.ii.)
