 Great Barrington, Massachusetts - Several "firsts" have taken place in Great Barrington, which today is
the commercial center of Southern Berkshire. It was the first town in
the United States to be illuminated by a high voltage A.C. distribution
system employing the transformer developed by Great Barrington
resident William Stanley in 1885.
