    The Bargain Store
    Reed Street
    Pittsfield, MA 01201

My first pick is of course called the "Bargain Store" (and coincidentally just around the corner from my home). I discovered this store by accident. Much to my surprise and delight, the store reflects its name accurately and I have enjoyed many a browsing moment and always find a bargain, be it linens, clothing, jewelry, dishware or furniture. In the summer they have a really great section that I would rate 5 stars. The quality of furniture and clothing are slightly on the rickety or worn side, but the prices are appealing and usually I have no argument. This section is closed in winter due to lack of heat.

This in no way takes away from the main store which has bargains galore. Furniture, vintage clothing, jewelry, dishes, linens, and more fill the store. And everything is adequately priced if not slightly underpriced. The clothing is varied from very dressy velvets, silks and suits, to jeans, boots and sweaters.

The linen section is beautiful. Everything is clean and pressed. Quite often if they have an abundance of lines not up to their standards they will find a laundry basket and offer it for practically a song (.25 to $1.00). They have this week a half price table on mint condition linens.

The furniture is by no means antique, but it is very nice and in great condition. They have vanity sets, dining room tables and chairs, bureaus, hutches, bed frames, lamps, sofas, etc. Again all at completely reasonable prices.

One hint for this particular store. If you see something you like, put down a deposit or buy it !! The merchandise, (particularly the furniture), flies out of there. By the same token they have a very steady stream of new things coming in all the time.

I would suggest you take a look at the jewelry yourself. Excellent X-mas shopping.

And don't forget to dig through their $1.00 barrels for jeans and vintage fabric. (This is my favorite pastime).

The Bargain Store is my favorite pick of the month and I urge you to take a peek.
