Col. John Ashley House -
In 1735, young John Ashley designed and built a
handsomely crafted house for himself and his new wife -
a house that for years would be considered the finest in
Sheffield. Exquisite mill-cut paneling, a gracefully curved
staircase and the hand-carved sunburst atop a recessed
cupboard attest to the craftsmanship of the time. One of
the first houses in Berkshire County, the furnishings and
household items date back from the 18th and 19th
centuries and include special pottery and tool
