Souvenir
In
1932, when Florence Foster Jenkins, a tone deaf spinster with deep pockets
and a striking lack of talent, met Cosme McMoon, an equally hapless pianist,
stardom had eluded them both. But over the next 12 years their bizarre
musical partnership earned them an extraordinary cultish fame, and their
awkward pairing evolved into a friendship as full of light and warmth as
the spotlight they shared, culminating in a sold out performance at Carnegie
Hall. Fresh from Off-Broadway where the bittersweet comedy with music and
its star, Tony-Award-winning actress Judy Kaye, received rave reviews,
Souvenir arrives at the BTF prior to its Broadway run. Recommended for
children 8 years and older.

Lecture: Night Dreams: American Painters in la ville lumière
(1870-1914)
Professor S. Hollis Clayson will explore American artists' responses
to the joys and wonders of the Parisian night. Clayson's lecture will
present evidence of American painters' preoccupation with Belle-Epoque
Paris bathed in streetlight. Unlike indigenous French modernists, who associated
the Paris night with venality and danger, the visiting U.S. artists imagined
the City of Light to be congenial and welcoming, even utopic. Artists discussed
will include Charles Courtney Curran, Childe Hassam, Robert Henri, and
John Singer Sargent. Free - 5:30PM September
