12th Annual Franklin County Cider Day
West County Winery started CiderDay in l994, to mark l0 years of fermenting. The hard cider tradition of the Franklin County hills--- part of the on-the-land, subsistence farming economy-- was changing. The number of gallons used for fermenting decreased as the century continued. Yet there still are and have been producers to talk to. CiderDay seemed a way to continue this tradition, giving fermenters a chance to meet, talk, taste and listen and to buy fresh-pressed, varietal, unadulterated cider. 10AM - 5PM

Suspiria: Director Dario Argento's landmark erotic and lyrical vision is a hallucinatory example of Italy's Gialli genre. Part one of a trilogy "The Three Mother's" - about ancient and powerful witches who live in various dwellings around the world in order to spread evil, Argento proves horror can be operatic in its sensory excess. Bill Frisell’s Unspeakable Orchestra

Brought back together on the Mahaiwe stage are some of the country’s finest musicians, Kenny Wollesen, Tony Scherr, Hank Roberts, Eyvind Kang, Jenny Scheinman, Ron Miles and Greg Tardy. “Unspeakable is the rare jazz project that confronts dance grooves and electronica without surrendering to them. Frisell reacts to the beats and samples but never imitates them; he always seems to be proposing alternative methods for divvying up the same pulse or evoking the same mood. Thus we get the best of both worlds — the power of electronica and the personality of an idiosyncratic musician.” –Gregory Himes, The Washington Post (Frisell)… plays the guitar like Miles Davis played the trumpet: in the hands of such radical thinkers, their instruments simply become different albums.” – Peter Monaghan, –The New Yorker. North by Northwest
A strong candidate for the most sheerly entertaining and enjoyable movie ever made by a Hollywood studio (with Citizen Kane, Only Angels Have Wings and Trouble in Paradise running neck and neck). Positioned between the much heavier and more profoundly disturbing Vertigo (1958) and the stark horror of Psycho (1960), North by Northwest (1959) is Alfred Hitchcock at his most effervescent in a romantic comedy-thriller that also features one of the definitive Cary Grant performances. Which is not to say that this is just "Hitchcock Lite"; seminal Hitchcock critic Robin Wood (in his book Hitchcock's Films Revisited) makes an airtight case for this glossy MGM production as one of The Master's "unbroken series of masterpieces from Vertigo to Marnie." It's a classic Hitchcock Wrong Man scenario. Admission. 8PM
