Friday, December 3 Saturday, December 4 Sunday, December 5 Lenox Chamber of Commerce , Lenox 413-637-3646 Looking to get away from the dark and chilly city? Looking for a little something to recharge the ol' Holiday Spirit? Then come to Lenox! For a whole weekend, see the Historic Village in the Town of Lenox transformed into a winterland of wonder. Events get underway on Friday evening at sunset (around 6 PM) when Jolly Old Santa Claus wheels into town atop a fire-truck - red, naturally - with a police escort, light-bars flashing, clearing the way with the merry sound of whistles and sirens. Santa's mission? To light the tree in the village square! This he will do followed by cheery caroling around the tree. Then, it's back to the Community House for more singing, posing with Santa (and making heartfelt gift pleas) and some well-earned hot chocolate. Later that night, at the Berkshire Performing Arts Theatre at Lenox's National Music Center, enjoy top-notch concert entertainment as delivered by the Air Force Band of Liberty, performing holiday and patriotic favorites. On Saturday, from 11-3, visitors can enjoy a tour of Lenox's Historic Homes and Inns. Then, from 3 to 5 PM, the holiday entertainment continues at Town Hall. As people exit the Town Hall, they will be enraptured to see the glow of over 1,000 luminarias, inviting them to stroll the softly lit streets. On Saturday night, it's back to the National Music Center, this time for a very special musical entertainment called the Christmas Heritage '98 Concert. The assemblage of musicians, known collectively as the "Masters of String Music," are all performers on the famous Windham Hill record label and include such well known artists as Phil Aaberg, Darrol Anger, Alison Brown, Todd Philips and Grammy Award Winner Mike Marshall. During the whole weekend, many local stores will feature craftsfolk providing demonstrations of their art and some terrific holiday gift items. In addition, a number of restaurants will be featuring specials on holiday fare. According to organizers, the holiday spirit has always been very much alive in Lenox, but only in recent years has there been a concerted effort by the Chamber of Commerce, businesses and entertainers to provide a community event for local families and visitors alike to enjoy. Come and join us for the aptly named Holly Days in the Historic Village of Lenox. For more information, specific times and costs of events, contact the Lenox Chamber of commerce at www.lenox.org. |
