With great alpine skiing and snowboarding, as well as a popular snow
tubing area, Bousquet is where thousands of people in Berkshire County
first "strapped on the boards" to ski, starting in 1932! And they still
do, day and night, on over 200 acres to ski, with 21 trails (the longest
downhill stretching one-mile) and a vertical drop of 750 feet!
Ninety-eight percent of the mountain can be covered with snow by the
snowguns, while short lines to the top are assured by 5 lifts, including
2 double chair lifts. With a wonderful mix of beginning, experienced and
advanced trails, a "halfpipe" for snowboarders, and the unusual sport of
tubing, fun can be had for the whole group in one diversified
destination.
Bousquet is conveniently located mere minutes from downtown Pittsfield
and is one of the most accessible and complete ski areas in the county
for snow lovers and families to escape to the slopes for winter
vacations and day trips year after year. Bousquet enjoys many modern
amenities, including equipment rentals, a snack bar, a gift shop, a
daycare center and also includes live entertainment and banquet
facilities. They usually open around Thanksgiving Day, and continue to
provide an abundance of winter sports throughout the winter.
Bousquet received the Berkshire Eagle's "Best of the Berkshires Readers
Choice Award" for the best downhill skiing in 1999. Don't take their
word for it, try it yourself!
Bousquet has upgraded its terrain park with features that would make the
radical snowrider's adrenaline pump. Bosquest's new snowmaking plant
will ensure quality skiing on all of their trails, making sure that
optimal conditionals for a fun filled ski adventure is guaranteed.
Though intimate and friendly, Bousquet has produced it's share of
"thoroughbreds" including three US Olympic Ski Team members and Junior
National medal-championship snowboarders. Perhaps you and your family
can participate, via the extensive children's programs, including the
"development team" which prepares youngsters for the Race Team.
Founded by CJ Bousquet in the early 1930's, it is a well known fact that
Bousquet has bragging rights to being the first ski area in the United
States to make snow, the first to offer night skiing (thanks to a 1936
partnership with GE) and the second mountain in America to install a
rope tow.
Check out their web site to find out about any special events and
competitions being offered during the 2001 winter season.
