“…To experience the finest music ever written, presented by leading musicians of the day, in the inviting atmosphere of the Berkshires, is a dream come true. The quality of Lincoln Center with an intimacy that exceeds it…”, according to Yehuda Hanani, the artistic director of Close Encounters with Music.
Located in Great Barrington, the critically acclaimed Close Encounters with Music, takes a broad view of composition and performance from the 17th to the 20th century Chamber music, which is combined with incisive historical commentary to provide context and a richer enjoyment of the greatest works of Western music.
Performances are held at St. James Church in Great Barrington, “in the heart of the cultural and recreational Berkshires”, and at other nearby venues. The Close Encounters season runs traditionally from October through May with an annual Thanksgiving Weekend concert held in collaboration with the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge. A spring concert is held at Ozawa Hall, on the Tanglewood grounds. The Close Encounters' Children's Concert is featured at the beautiful Searles Castle in Great Barrington.
