Grey Fox takes place on the incredibly beautiful and breathtaking Rothvoss Farm that is a working hay farm in the town of Ancramdale, NY. The Rothvoss Farm has long been the site of the Winterhawk Bluegrass Festival, stretching from 1983 to 1999, presenting the best of bluegrass and acoustic music, and serving as a Mecca for bluegrass fans the world over. Now known as Grey Fox, the festival is produced by Mary Tyler Doub and Ron Thomason, who are dedicated to continuing the same great tradition.

The newly named festival - The Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival - returns to the same location Thursday, July 19, Friday, July 20, Saturday July 21 and Sunday, July 22, 2001. For a full explanation and details, visit to the new web site at www.GreyFoxBluegrass.com. Only the name has changed; all other aspects, including its producers, host band, outstanding line up, staff and location remain unchanged.

One of the original promoters, Howard Randall, named the Winterhawk event when it began in 1983. In 1985 Mary Doub took over operations and expanded its scope and brought it to its current critical acclaim and popularity. Randall retained the rights to the title when he and Doub officially dissolved their professional relationship two years ago. Doub as producer will continue to dedicate her efforts to maintaining the festival's tradition in its new incarnation as the Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival

Grey Fox 2001 will include in its four days of legendary bluegrass and acoustic music, top name acts on the main stage, Intimate Workshops with musicians, plus hands-on teach-ins and exciting children's programs with lots of food, music, and the ever present craft vendors.

The Grey Fox talent showcase starts on the Main Stage Thursday, July 19, kicking off the 2001 festival with some of the hottest new bands in the business. Musicians are welcome to send demo tapes or CDs to be selected to perform on the main stage. Visit the web site for details.

The jam sessions at Grey Fox are legendary and if you've been to the festival before, you will know what we mean. As usual the Grey Fox talent scouts will be officially seeking out, and rewarding, the hottest-picking session at the festival. (See the web site for details.) Don't miss the Grey Fox 'All Festival Band which will be held in place of the parking lot picking contest. They are bringing back the band, in honor of 25 years of great music on the Rothvoss Farm. Bring your instrument and/or voice to the festival and we'll all learn a couple of well-known tunes during the course of the weekend. Then on Sunday, everyone gathers at the Main Stage and is led by the host, Ron Thompson, in what's sure to be the World's Largest Bluegrass Band. There will be workshops and jam sessions throughout the festival where these tunes can be learned.

The 3rd Annual Best Campsite Award will carry on its tradition. Every year, the campsites at Grey Fox get more and more ingenious and imaginative!

"The 3rd Annual Best Campsite in the Land Award" is given to the outstanding campsite on the grounds.

Sites are judged for creativity, interest, elegance, wackiness, technical prowess, and other factors that the judges deem reasonable. Everyone who camps at Grey Fox is automatically in the running. The impartial (but rather opinionated) judges check out each and every site!

A custom-designed, one of a kind Stelling banjo, handmade by Geoff Stelling will be raffled to benefit the annual Grey Fox Bill Vernon Memorial Scholarship, which provides recipients with financial assistance toward their education. Also, a custom designed Martin guitar will be raffled, as well as some other instruments that will be announced.

The updated lists of artists appearing makes us think that this will still be the place to be! The full roster is impressive and although we would like to list them all we simply suggest, yet again, that you visit the web site with links to band web sites and other important information.

For a full list of Grey Fox Artists go to the web site www.GreyFoxBluegrass.com. With this festival there are just too many to fit into this feature and the web site gives the ultimate information.

To put the changes in this festival in a nutshell: Same Time. Same Place. Same Soaring Spirit.
