About the Festivals, Festivals have their roots in the fun-loving ancient world of our ancestors. By the Middle Ages, feast days and joyful gatherings had become so numerous that the Pope was encouraged to tell everyone to quit goofing off and get back to work! And so it went. Each of these festivals shared a common goal: to allow the fun loving and adventurous of all ages to gather and experience the best music of the times in the natural splendor of the outdoor setting. Just as in Berkshire County and other nearby spots, bluegrass, the folk, and the blues continue to attract music lovers by the tens of thousands every year.
With this in mind we choose to include these five festivals in this year's feature and hope to expand the scope for the year 2001 to include outdoor music festivals from Connecticut, Southern Vermont and Eastern Massachusetts. We hope you find the information we have gathered in this feature helpful and inspiring, and above all hope you enjoy your virtual browse and join us for one or more of the events outlined in this article.
Most of these events take place over the course of a weekend and allow for either a single entrance pass or for a weekend pass, so campers in tents and RVs can set up camp and become immersed, or the festival can be enjoyed as a day trip. Treat yourself and your family to a wide variety of crafts, clothing, food, a magnificent array of instruments, and don't forget the good people watching out for safety and crowd control to ensure a fabulous time is had by all.
In the beautiful surroundings there is no reason why not to simply wander off into the nearby woods and fields for some meditation and solitude, and contemplate the meaning of life as the music wafts in the distance, or if you prefer, to shop for unusual trinkets and souvenirs. Whether it is your first time, or you are adventuring to our neck of the woods as an annual trek, be sure that the spirit of summer lives on in the festivals, the music and the majestic scenic beauty that is only hours away.
