Fourth Annual Barn Dance and Country Auction, September 18, 6:00 PM - 'till the cows come home! Country Fair Weekend, September 23 & 24, 2000 9:30 AM - 5:00 PM Country Fair Weekend, Harvest Dinner, September 9, 30, October 7, 8 & 14, 2000 "Mosey on over to Hancock Shaker Village for a rousing good time! Promenade your way 'round the Round Stone Barn and bid on a wagon load of serendipitous surprises. 6:00 p.m. - 'till the cows come home."
The day's events include a silent auction and a “live” auction, featuring a variety of bargains to be auctioned, including high quality reproductions of the world renowned Shaker furniture, tickets to area events and concerts, and even more unusual items which have been donated. These offerings include dinners catered to the highest bidder's home, as well as gardening and financial services. There are many other “serendipitous surprises,” very much in keeping with the notions of Shaker ingenuity! Then, when you're ready to rip a little rug, join in a real old hootenanny at the architectural marvel of the round stone barn, built in 1826. The night will feature line dancing and contra dancing with the fiddle and banjo setting a rollicking pace. Wear your jeans and casual attire, but be sure to make reservations. Fall in the Berkshires brings to mind the harvest and the farming life, the good old country values, which characterized this country in the pre-Industrial era. For a taste of this old-world, make a trip to Hancock Shaker Village September 23 & 24, 2000, for the Country Fair (previously known as the Autumn Fair) to participate in the many fun activities and demonstrations of how people enjoyed themselves in the old days. The fair features a New England Heritage Breeds Conservancy exhibit of heritage livestock. Enjoy a celebration of traditional craftsmanship with demonstrations of blacksmithing, woodworking, basket making and more! Some of the regions finest crafts people demonstrate their skills and sell their work. Also, one of the largest heritage livestock exhibitions in the United States will be featured, along with a parade of animals sponsored by the New England Heritage Breeds Conservancy. Participate in the old-fashioned fair activities, games, and harvest activities and join harvest demonstrations, pie judging, a farmers market, and an impressive display of heirloom quilts and an exhibit of heirloom vegetables and fruit. 9:30a.m. - 5:00 p.m. And don't miss Harvest Dinner September 9, 30, October 7, 8 & 14. Come celebrate the harvest with a hardy four course Shaker dinner in the 1830 Brick Dwelling. According to the folks who know; this series of evenings allows you to “enjoy Shaker hospitality and cuisine with an evening tour of selected buildings led by costumed guides, beverages in the 1830 kitchen and a four-course Shaker dinner by candlelight in the Believers' Dining Room followed by a program of Shaker music.
