The Town of Lee is proud to present its Sixth Annual Founders Day Weekend, beginning on Friday afternoon, October 6th. Start the festival on an ever-popular note by attending the town's "Taste of Lee" which has the streets lined with tables and manned by Lee's many restaurants, offering great tasting samples of their specialties. While you are in the mood for food, check out the Italian Festival sponsored by the Lee Sons of Italy, which is scheduled at the Town Park also for that evening.

After feasting the weekend continues with its feature event, the "Home Town Parade", which starts at 11:00 a.m. at Joe's Diner on Center Street and ends at the Lee Athletic Field on Housatonic Street. This year the town will treat visitorss to something new, a vintage baseball game in honor of the 1949 Lee Sons of Italy baseball team that made it all the way to the National Semi-pro Baseball Tournament in that respective year.

Founder's Day Weekend began as a celebration of the town's founding in 1777, and was held largely for the entertainment and education of the local citizens. It has since grown into a broad celebration of the beauty and culture, which is ever present in the Berkshires, attracting visitors from far afield.

Founder's Day Weekend has something to offer for people of all ages, but kids are particularly likely to enjoy themselves. This year will see another edition of the wildly popular Scarecrow Contest as well as other kid-oriented events. Don't miss the annual Basketball Shoot-out, the Beanie Baby Sidewalk Parade and the Duck Race; the latter will involve the purchase of little plastic ducks, which represent their actual waterfowl counterparts, who will engage in, as the contest name suggests, a duck race!

Saturday evening will feature a Latino Festival in the Town Park as well as a swing band performance by the band Swingtime, who hail from over the mountain in Amherst, MA, that is being held at St. Mary's School. If you miss out on the dancing Saturday you will want to attend the "Square Dancing in the Park" with a "Teddie Bear Picnic" for children of all ages.

There will also be guided historical walking tours of Lee's Main Street, and entertainment provided by the New Hampshire based Amoskee Players, using period costumes and instruments to heighten the historical allusion. All in all, it should be grand fun for locals and visitors of all ages with many more activities in store, Lee Founder's Weekend continues to be a worthwhile and fun-filled experience for everyone. Except for the food, all events are free of charge.
