Founded in 1990 by Vincent Dowling, former director of the Abby Theatre in Dublin, the Miniature Theatre's mission is to "educate, enlighten and entertain audiences of all ages in the art of drama through live performance of new and existing plays…poetry…short stories… creative writing…" as well as to "enhance the cultural, economic and tourist potential of the Hilltowns and surrounding areas." This theatre is a wonderful example of how art can be used in a vital, direct way to reach an audience, yet lose none of the intimacy and flavor of the Hilltown communities, helping to raise consciousness about the important part the arts play in our lives. Area residents are employed to breathe life into the theatre and, in years past, the MTC has featured such acclaimed actors as Kim Hunter, Kenneth Tigar, Jerry Hardin, Lee Richardson, Robert Elliot and Dan O'Herlihy.
