The Contemporary Artists Center Gallery and Loading Dock Gallery in the
130,000 square foot brick Historic Beaver Mill has been operating since
1990. It is an affordable, not-for-profit artists studio that is
an ideal place for the artist to come and enjoy a summer of
creativity, 24 hours a day, surrounded by the gorgeous,
pastoral, art-oriented Berkshires. Many have described it as one of the
most important artistic events of their lives. See their website and
learn about the Independent Studio Residency (one to eight weeks, June
29-August 23). Note that grants and donations have dramatically reduced
studio fees.
The facilities offer gigantic mill space, materials and
processes in a stimulating art environment, featuring great lighting from
the large windows and tall ceilings. There are many opportunities to
share and learn with other artists and gain insight from visiting
scholars and gallery and museum directors. The CAC Gallery, Loading Dock
Gallery and "Downtown Installations" offer exhibition opportunities for
attending artists.
