The Bidwell House The South Berkshire County home of Reverend Adonijah Bidwell. Built in 1750 on 190 beautiful acres as the sanctuary in the rugged wilderness for the first minister of Township No.1, which included both Monterey and Tyringham. The house is an apt setting for 18th and 19th century craftsmanship and beauty, with furniture, redware pottery, delft and decorative arts, surrounded by woodlands and hiking trails. The Reverend's 1784 estate inventory is the guiding document which ensures preservation of the distinctly Colonial, Georgian saltbox design, the large rooms and simple paneling, the cupboards and tools and fireplaces which surrounded the pioneers and their successive generations, offering a rare glimpse into life in the 1750's. To further spice the piquant charm, there are woodland hikes, as well as workshops and lectures on topics of historical interest.
