III. SERVICES FOR WHICH THE COUNTY PLAYS AN ACTIVE ROLE
J. COUNTY INFORMATION BOOKLET
1. Background
Staff and Structure: This service is supervised by the County Commissioners and
administered by their staff.
Service: Each year this service provides the public, officials, lawyers, companies, etc.
with an up-to-date directory of the names, titles, and contact information for County, town,
and city officials and agencies in the Berkshire County region. In 1999 the County printed
1,500 booklets. Likewise, the County also makes available up-to-date County maps that
are created by the Surveying Department.
2. Actual Service Usage
All towns, cities, and other public entities are provided with numerous copies of this
booklet at no charge. Numerous booklets are purchased by private entities and individuals
for $1.00 per booklet.
3. Service Costs and Funding
In 1999 the County paid $2,312.00 to print 1,500 copies of this booklet. Unspecified costs
were incurred for mailing to towns, cities, and public entities. The Commissioners’
staff spends approximately 210 hours per year performing the tasks necessary to update,
create, and distribute the information booklet. In 1999 the County has received
approximately $125.00 from the sale of this booklet.
