1998	Chapter 300 of the Acts of 1998 calls for abolishment of Berkshire County government, effective July 1, 2000
October 6, 1998	Berkshire legislative delegation writes letter to Chair Thomas McCann requesting that the Berkshire Regional Planning Commission take the lead in resolving issues around the dissolution of Berkshire County government.
January 20, 1999	First meeting of County Government Dissolution Advisory Group (which evolves into Berkshire 2000 Task Force).
February - October	Task Force continues to meet once or twice a month to review current county services; meets with representatives of Council of Governments in Franklin and Hampshire County; meets with state administrative staff, evaluate need for and potential role of regional entity.
March 1999	Task Force meets with Town Managers
April - May, 1999	Services subcommittee meets to review existing county services.
June 29 - July 1, 1999	Sub-regional public meetings held in Pittsfield, North Adams and Great Barrington to get public input.
August 1999	Report on Existing County Services completed, under direction of Berkshire 2000 Task Force and County Commissioner's Office.
September, 1999	Audit Committee formed to conduct budgetary and operational audit of Berkshire County government's finances. Members are Robert F. Wallace, Clifford J. Howard Jr., and Thomas H. Stokes.
October 1999	Audit Committee selects firm to complete audit.
October 21, 1999	Presentation made at quarterly Selectmen's Association meeting.
October 28, 1999	Chief elected officials meet to discuss need for a regional entity at the Future of the Berkshires Summit.
November, 1999 to June 30, 2000
No later than December 1	Each community that wishes to participate in the Charter Commission or Charter Review Committee process appoints a representative.
November - December, 1999	Berkshire 2000 staff compiles research to present to Charter Commission.
December 31, 1999	Anticipated date for completion of audit.
December 1999
February 2000	Charter Commission develops draft charter.
Spring 2000	Individual communities vote at town meetings/city council meetings regarding acceptance of Charter.
June 30, 2000	Berkshire County Government dissolved.
